THE CHALLENGE
Safety Culture is a priority within the business and executive management required a solution that would address two main aspects of occupational health and safety management within the business:
- inductions and training
- the management of incidents
Training and inductions for the entire workforce needed an approach to suit both contractors and employees and with operations spread across multiple sites, the challenge was to ensure quality of training as well as consistency. With incident reporting, executive management required a solution that would ensure incidents were reported, investigated and managed appropriately all whilst allowing senior management full visibility of data across the organisation.
“The Rapid Global reporting within the Rapid Incident and Rapid Induct Systems is used during Senior Management Review meetings to assist the executive team to identify, assess, evaluate and set goals to achieve on-going improvement and promote a positive safety culture.”
– Chris Curran, National Manager – Accreditation, Compliance and Safety
THE SOLUTION
Rapid Induct and Rapid Incident Reporting software applications were introduced to provide a systematic and robust compliance solution.
By underpinning the SCT Logistics safety management system with these applications, senior management were provided with effective risk management tools. With over 200 personnel able to report incidents or manage courses, the applications have provided SCT Logistics with a uniform and robust process with which to train and manage incident reporting.
THE RESULTS
Rapid Induct is the primary induction system for SCT Logistics and provides online training software for employees on safety culture, procedures and responsibilities.
The online induction software enables new employees or contractors to complete the training prior to entering site or whenever required. The online aspect provides administrators instant ability to issue training on an as-needs basis as well as full editorial control over content. The training is administered easily by the contracting company administrator through Rapid Contractor Management. Then the Rapid dashboard enables SCT Logistics personnel to see exactly who is inducted, as well as which contracting companies are compliant, with the touch of a few buttons.
A focus on training of workers at all levels of the business drives continual improvement with more e-learning courses introduced on an ongoing basis.
Rapid Incident Reporting is now an integral part of the business’ safety management system and has seen a pleasing and significant increase in the actual reporting of the incidents, near misses and hazards, resulting in more effective trend reporting and earlier intervention to prevent recurring incidents.
Accordingly, the business has seen a 30% reduction in injury incidents.
“The business holds 8 primary types of Legislative Australian Standard and Industry auditing where incident, near miss and hazard reporting is a standing audit agenda item. Since introducing the Rapid Incident Reporting in 2011, the feedback from regulators and auditors has been positive.”
